I found this photo posted by a Facebook acquaintance. I thought it was beautiful and evocative and sexy and what I’d hoped to be doing this weekend, but I’m not. Do you think it’s art or porn? I’m not here to argue, just curious as to how you view it. If I didn’t live with my 82 year old mother, I’d get this framed and hang it in my bedroom. For inspiration, you know? Let me know what you think.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you feel it is art, that is enough.

Thank you, I appreciate your taking a look and your comment. To me it is art, beyond art, but then I come at it from a certain perspective. Thank you again for stopping by. ๐

Having said that, you did ask my opinion… I feel that this is very provocative. It is a loving kiss. I would say this is art, because it makes me feel. It is not gratuitous, but definitely explicit.

Hi, yes, I did ask your opinion and I’m happy you gave it. I agree, its provocative. It’s also evocative. To me, what’s sexy is not so much the naked female bodies (both explicit and implied) but the expressiveness of the hands. The gripping hands tell the story of love and passion. The hands are sexy. And I agree, this is not gratuitous. You don’t actually see any body parts except head, hands, stomach. Please keep stopping by. Thanks again.

Is it not pornographic art?
(or perhaps artistic porn)
Always question the question ๐

I don’t think we need to label it. Maybe to name and categorize it, is to seek power over it and we should let it be what it is- multitudinous in its possibilities and interpretations.

Hi Alison,
That’s a great perspective to have. I think it’s smart. I have s habit of trying to name and categorize things, including myself. I think it is about control. Thank you for stopping by with your thoughts!

“printed or visual material intended to stimulate sexual excitement”. (OED)
Although I prefer the Spanish definition, linking porn to art and not just printed or visual material:
“Gรฉnero artรญstico que muestra con detalle escenas de carรกcter sexual para excitaciรณn de quien las contempla”
So I would say, yes! And a very nice kind. Thanks, Cindy.

Hi Estela,
Thanks for weighing in. I wonder what’s wrong with pics that stimulate sexual excitement as long as it involves adults only. Do you think sexual excitement can’t be a part of art? Just Curious. Don’t mean to sound judgmental. Hope you are well.

Hi Cindy,
I’m finally catching up on all your blogs. My answer to you here is, yes: Yes, it’s art. Yes, it’s porn. Yes, it’s sexy. Yes, it’s provocative and explicit. What makes this a great shot is the fact you’re sort of pulled in different directions when viewing it. I love photography. And I’m with you on the hands comment… They are very sexy. You need to write an entire blog just on hands. LOL!

Hi Kathie,
It’s so sweet of you to return to my blog to “catch up,” I really love what you say about the pic. That it’s art, that it’s pron, that it’s provocative and explicit. It really can be all of those things at once, can’t it? I love, too, that you got what I was saying about the hands. The hands are the expression in this photo and what makes it so sexy (for me.)
Please keep reading. I love having you here!
